Scrub-a-dub Part 2

Our hardy car-washers are up for another weekend of scrubbing. Visit the WAG office at 3904 Oak Grove Road, right behind the Racetrac gas station off Hwy. 78 for a $5 car wash. Time to get all that icky yellow pollen gone! Scrubbers on site from 11 am to 3 pm.

Adoptions ahead!

Come join us at the Loganville Petsmart this weekend, Sat., March 31. We have lots of dogs needing great homes: puppies, young dogs, old dogs and everything in between. Adoption hours are 11 am until 3 pm.

Stop by and say hello!

Rosie update

A big thank you to everyone who donated so Rosie could have her orthopedic surgery. She has a couple of more weeks of crate rest and is going bonkers! She's still a young pup, after all. But recent x-rays show her fracture is healing well and her bone is growing as it should. And the best news is she's already found a wonderful home! She won't leave until medically cleared the first week of April, but we're so excited for Rosie and her new life.

Help your Ford shine!

Something different for this Saturday - come out to the WAG office and get your car washed. Several industrious 4-H members and their friends will offer a $5 car wash from 11 am - 4 pm this Saturday. And best of all, they're donating all the money to WAG! An awesome idea, and we're very grateful.

The WAG office is located at 3904 Oak Grove Road, the brick house directly behind the Racetrac gas station on Hwy. 78 at Brand Rd.

Hope to see lots of dirty filthy cars there!

A weekend off

No adoptions at Petsmart this weekend - we're giving our dogs the weekend off and let them indulge in a little spring fever along with the rest of us! But we'll be back on Saturday, March 31st.

A happy weekend

Another lucky weekend for some rescue dogs! Oliver and Asia both found new wonderful homes. It was a busy Saturday - thanks to our volunteers Katie, Breanna and William for their help during the day. We'll be watching the shelter website www.waltonpets.net this week and hopefully can help a few more animals.

St. Patty's adoption

Get ready for another adoption day this Saturday, March 17, at the Loganville Petsmart, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have some old/new furry faces looking for loving families. Who knows - they may even be wearing St. Patrick's Day green! Volunteers are welcome - if you'd like to come out just drop us an email at wagvolunteer@yahoo.com by Friday night so we know to look for you.

A new furry face

It's Asia's lucky day - we pulled her from the shelter today! She's a sweet boxer mix, about 7 mos. old, already spayed and will make her first appearance at the Petsmart adoption on Saturday. Come out and visit her!

Cheyenne

Here's Cheyenne, one of our recent rescues. Unfortunately he tested positive for heartworms. Heartworm treatment is rough - two painful instramuscular injections - but Cheyenne was a well-mannered gentleman throughout. Once a few weeks have gone by, he'll be ready for a new family. He's a big beautiful boy, 66 lbs., and will make a great companion.

An Ace in the house

Great weekend at adoptions - Sugar, Lucy and Sterling all went to new homes! It's always wonderful to see dogs that once faced an uncertain future proudly trot off with new families - makes it all worthwhile.

We visited the shelter today and pulled Ace, a very frightened and shy American Bulldog mix, about 2 years old. He cowers at sudden movements and is gonna need a whole lot of lovin' to make his world brighter. But lots of people are committed to helping him. He'll get neutered, vaccinated, a warm bath and blankets to sleep on at the vets office for a few days. But he'll be ready for adoption soon - only loving families may apply !

Adoption day on 3/10

It should be a great weekend for a Saturday adoption - 65 degrees and sunny! Come out and visit us at Loganville Petsmart this Saturday (March 10, 2012) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have plenty of great dogs looking for homes!

Info re:our adoption event weekends

Thanks for checking out WAG's blog. We've been posting news here for several years, but plan to use it more in the future for volunteer news and updates, particularly our plans for adoption events and other opportunities.

We only have one foster family currently working weekend adoptions, so our 2012 schedule has occasionally varied. But to make sure we keep volunteers well-informed in the future, here's our plan: WAG is committed to be at Petsmart in Loganville on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  for adoptions. Volunteers will be used inside at the cattery and also outside with the dogs.

We may also hold adoptions on other weekends and will post on this blog when we plan on coming out.  Adoptions are very important to us, but sometimes our non-rescue lives take center stage and we need to be elsewhere on Saturday/Sunday.

Petsmart holds National Adoptathon weekends four times each year - in Feb. May, Sept. and Nov. On those weekends, we join another rescue group at the Conyers Petsmart on Saturday and come to Loganville on Sunday. We'll post those scheduled dates later.

Volunteers are welcome to help us any weekend, or we'll be glad to schedule specific days/times for you.

Occasionally weather may interfere. We don't take animals out for adoptions when severe rain and thunderstorms are predicted - many of the dogs get very frightened in bad weather.

If for any reason we cancel a planned adoption day, we will post a notice on this blog no later than 9:30 a.m. the day of the event. So before heading out to volunteer, check this space to make sure our plans haven't changed. MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE "VIEW COMMENTS" BUTTON UNDER THE POSTS IN CASE ONE OF OUR VOLUNTEERS POSTS THE CANCELLATION MESSAGE!

You can also subscribe to this blog to be notified of any new posts. Move your mouse over the left side of top navigation bar and click on the word "Follow."

Thanks for supporting WAG! We hope to see you soon!

Rosie

Thanks to everyone who donated for Rosie's care. The surgeons at Athens Veterinary Surgery Center inserted a pin in her rear leg to stabilize the growth plate fracture. After 8 days the bandage was taken off and she's raring to go. Dr. recommends another week of crate rest and leash walking, then they'll take another set of x-rays. Hope things will be ok to give Rosie a little more exercise in the coming weeks - it's getting hard to keep this bouncy girl down!

Springing into 2012

I'm so glad spring is around the corner! Just a few more weeks - if we can hold off any last minute snow and ice. Paws crossed!

WAG will be gearing up for a busy few months, with adoption events, the WAG 'n Walk at Meridian Park, calendar contest, youth club and more. We'll be starting a "Meet and Greet" day at Petsmart the first Saturday of each month - we'll have pets available for adoption and also info on all the WAG programs and how to get involved. It's great to get out and say hello to our local animals lovers!

Here's Archie, a one-year old Dalmatian mix waiting for a new family. Archie is a fun boy. He'll make an EXCELLENT jogging or walking partner - he loves activity. He's good with other dogs but definitely needs a no-cat household. He's a perfect mid-size dog, about 35 lbs.
