Saving Lives

Good news, Great news from Walton FD - the oxygen masks we supplied a few years back worked again!

******************************* From Walton Co. FD

On November 18, 2011 Walton County Fire Rescue along with Monroe Fire Department and Loganville Fire Department responded to a structure fire on H.D.Atha Road. When the fire department arrived we had a large out building at a 40% involvement. We were notified by the homeowner that he had his pet dog in the outbuilding. Our firefighters were able to make entry into the smoke filled building and recover the dog. The dog was a Boston Terrier and was suffering from smoke inhalations and shock. We applied the Rescue Mask, (that you supplied), and within 3 to 4 minutes the dog had recover enough that he was running around as though nothing had happened. Thanks again!  Jon Marsh Battalion Chief Walton County Fire Rescue

Animal Friends

Here are some new WAG friends: Camille Malcom, Graham Lucas, Ella King and Sara Cate Blackstone. These awesome 8 year olds had a joint birthday party but instead of presents, they decided to raise money for homeless animals. What an awesome job they did, raising nearly $1,000! Amazing.

They stopped by the WAG office to deliver their gift and some pet food. We were really glad to meet them! Lots of animals will be helped by their generosity.

Thanks again girls!

Holiday Happenings

Lots of fun stuff coming up! The Monroe Christmas parade will be on Dec. 1 and we'll be there as usual with our rescue dogs. Also the Loganville Christmas parade on Dec. 3, need happy walkers for that event, too. Parades are lots of fun and we have plenty of goofy Christmas caps to wear! As if that's any sort of incentive.

Awwwwwwww

Take a look at these cuties! We pulled them from the shelter last week - turns out they were covered in lice and malnourished. But they're getting great care and will be up for adoption soon!

Pet lovers unite!

Look for pet-friendly help or services in our area? Check out www.waltonpets.com, a resource guide to various pet and non-pet related businesses. Everyone listed is a WAG supporter.

Look up a business and give them a call. Let's help those who help us!

Keepin' busy

I was rather busy last week. We took over 500 lbs of dog/cat food to the WAG pet food pantry at FISH in Monroe. Great donations from Purina, Walmart and Petsmart!

Also took this sweet old blind girl to Cornelia on Saturday to meet her new owner. Sad story - her human died and someone cleaning out the house just put her out on the street to fend for herself! Humans are puzzling creatures. She ended up the shelter - most old dogs don't last long. But thanks to seeing her picture on their website (www.waltonpets.net), Jeanne from NC welcomed her into a new home.

I love happy endings!

Can you say awwwwwwwwwwwwwww?

A Home at Last

Let the trumpets blare - WAG has a place to call home!

We turned a very old and neglected house into our own office, complete with a cat room, volunteer office and our very own flushing toilet. And we're very excited - especially about the flushing toilet thing!

Thanks to Diversified Development for renting the house to us cheep cheep. It had been vacant for about 10 years, so WAG volunteers were very busy for a few weeks scrubbing and painting to get things looking good. Thanks to Albright's Flooring for a bargain priced bathroom floor, Tapp Plumbing for donating their time to get the bathroom ship-shape, Jason Autry, the Zajacs, the Phillips, Javier Bob, Tom and Stephanie Campbell, Bill Dean and Gustavo Ruiz for LOTS of elbow grease. Thanks also go to our anonymous donors who dug into their basements or wallets to help us with furnishings/future rent.

And if that wasn't good enough, students at Loganville Christian Academy helped put icing on the cake with an awesome landscaping job. Now we have pretty rose bushes in front, a crape myrtle tree and stepping stones to the front door thanks to the 5th grade and senior volunteers. Woo Hoo!

The house is located at 3904 Oak Grove Road, at the corner of Oak Grove and Brand Road. Easier to remember is that we're directly behind the Racetrack gas station on Hwy. 78 just past Petsmart. Better yet, we're within walking distance of Petsmart, so we can use the house to support our weekend Petsmart adoptions. And we love volunteers, so let us know if you have time to help with office or other tasks!

Here's Rogier, a super-intelligent and fun Dutch Shepherd mix, who's hoping for a family of his own.

Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring RIng

Thanks to Windstream, anyone trying to call WAG is hearing nothing but lots of endless ringing. Don't worry - with the efficient customer service we're receiving, it will be fixed sometime during this decade. Maybe.

Sorry for the snafu!

A New NEW meeting place

OK, Corralejo has great food, but we've found a better meeting place - our own office!

We've been fortunate to find a small house on Oak Grove Road in Loganville, right behind the Racetrack gas station on Hwy. 78. Owned by Diversified Development, the land is being marketed as commercial property, but the owners offered WAG an affordable rental rate for use of the house until the land sells.

So stay tuned!

Meeting starts at 6:30 pm. We're still looking into other possibilities, but will probably keep the meetings in Loganville for awhile.

Meetings are always the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Chick-Fil-A thanks

A hearty thanks to all those who came to Chick-Fil-A for our Dining to Donate night. Finally learned the results - WAG's share of proceeds was $330!! We had a lot of fun - our mascot "Wags" made his first appearance and enjoyed visiting with WAG fan, tall and small.

Our awesome fundraising crew of did a great job of getting receipts donated and making everyone aware we were there. In fact, we were tough to miss - at the door, in the parking lot, on the street, near the drive-thru - we had it all covered!

Spring WAG 'n Walk

Spring is here - Yay!! I was so tired of cold weather. There's nothing like digging and smelling cool Georgia springtime dirt. April and May are busy for WAG. The Petsmart adopt-a-thon weekend is April 30 - May 1. Some great pets will be available for adoption at both the Loganville and Conyers store, so come out and visit! Adoption hours are 11 am - 4 pm both Saturday and Sunday. We'll be tabling at the Loganville Starbucks this month to raise awareness of local pet issues. Hope you'll drop by to say hello. Our biggest news is the upcoming WAG 'n Walk on May 7 at Meridian Park in Loganville. It's gonna be an awesome event! A fun walk around the park lake, vendors with stuff to buy, helpful info on pets, music, food, fun and more! Also, our first Rescue Reunion will be held during the event. Come and meet other former Walton shelter pets and their adopters - maybe your dog will recognize a furry face! Two ways to participate. You can choose a flat fee ($10 indiv, $25 family), or help even more homeless pets by fundraising for your walk. The more money you raise, the more stuff you'll get! PAWsome goody bags await the high dollars fundraisers - those who raise more than $75 will get a special gift bag!! To sign up, visit www.firstgiving.com/18428/event/wag-n-walk. Make up your own fundraising page, email family and friends and ask them to donate on your behalf. It's that simple. See you on the trails! B.

Another Year.....

WAG is off and running on the new year. First, we've changed our meeting location. Meetings are now scheduled the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Mi Mexico Mex Grill, 530 Athens Hwy Suite B, Loganville. Look for the restaurant in the strip mall across from the Oasis bowling alley. Dinner is at 6:15, meeting is at 7 p.m. We meet in the back room of the restaurant - come visit and help us make 2011 great!

Thanks to everyone who supported us in 2010. We had a lot of successes, welcomed new volunteers and helped some great people and pets.

In 2010 we provided over 5200 lbs of food to the pet food pantry, rescued more than 120 cats/dogs, and provided subsidized spay/neuter to 129 Walton pets. And we're ready to do it again!
