All non-profit organizations, WAG included, are fundraising right now. Statistically, people give more during the holidays - donations tend to dry up after January 1. But animals will continue comi
ng into the shelter every month, regardless of our donation levels.
Local groups get NO funding from high-profile national organizations like the Humane Society of the US, ASPCA, or others. Even the $1 donated at the Petsmart checkout isn't guaranteed to go local - thousands of groups compete for Petsmart grants each year. Rescues pay for food, vet care and everything else animals need. Freebies are scarce in our world.
So when you're choosing gifts for your pet this holiday season, make a similar gift to your local homeless pets. Find a rescue organization that's making a difference and donate $10, $20 or $100. You'll never realize how much of a impact you can make!
And in case anyone needs to know, our website is www.wagwalton.com. There's a Paypal donate button on the left, our mailing address is PO Box 169, Monroe, GA 30655.

Puppies galore!
Look at these cutie pies - just a few of the 15 puppies currently in WAG foster care and destined for a no-kill shelter in NY in January. More on our new partnerships later - but hopefully this will allow us to rescue hundreds of more animals each year. Paws crossed for future possibilities!!

A battle for Buddy
Poor Buddy. We pulled him from the shelter with an upper respiratory infection. Two days later he was also diagnosed with parvo. He's one sick puppy. He received 5 days of intensive treatment at Peach Pets Hospital. He's back with his foster now, taking antibiotics to fight his pneumonia. So far his vet treatment has cost about $800. Donations can be made on our website at www.wagwalton.com - Paypal "Donate" button is on the left. Thankfully he's getting better - Buddy is going to make someone an awesome pet!

More room at the inn
Take a look at our new kennels! We had concrete poured in a 12 x 36 barn area, giving us a clean (flealess!) place to house more dogs. So far we have three extra kennels and will get a fourth when enough money comes in. We need a escape-proof kennel - you'd be surprised how many dogs will rip their way out of chain link and we've already had a few fence munchers. Best price we've found on a heavy-duty welded wire kennel is $549 at Tractor Supply. That should keep all our rescue dogs safe and secure.
So although this picture of plain concrete isn't visually dazzling or awe-inspiring, we're excited!

New beginnings
Here's our boy Milton, aka Jake. He's been neutered and was recently treated for heartworms. Hopefully it won't be long before this good-looking boy finds an awesome home! Thanks to everyone who sponsored him - your donations helped Jake get his HW treatment and another chance at happiness!!
Lovely Lola
Take a look at this Before/After shot! Lola is an amazing little girl who was carrying around pounds of nasty, matted hair when we rescued her from the shelter. But the folks at Monroe Vet shaved away all that awful stuff, letting her natural beauty shine through. ADORABLE! Lola will be spayed and available for adoption soon.

A New Rescue Partner
We're so lucky to have new friends, Pixel's Posse, dba the Pixel Fund, from Maine. They do an awesome job helping to rescue southern dogs and find great homes for them in Maine. In fact, four of our lucky dogs left for Maine on Thursday - here's Mr. Ed the Chihuahua with his new family! We couldn't have asked for a better ending. Kudos to Deb and Janet and all the hard workers Pixel Posse volunteers. Can't wait to do it again!!

A New Life
Here's Gracie, fka Anna. She was in the shelter and scheduled for euthanasia. But lucky her her, someone saw her photo and fell in love. So we pulled Gracie from the shelter, had her spayed at Monroe Vet Clinic, and introduced her to her new "mom" Regina. Two very happy ladies!
A special thank-you to the sponsors who helped with Gracie's vet bill - your support is what gave Gracie her
a new start in life!

A new spot
Something new this weekend - we'll be at the Winder Petsmart on Saturday, visiting and making new friends. Come out and see us. The dogs will be set-up inside the store, since it's still blazing hot outside.
And don't forget to stop by and see the cats at the Loganville Petsmart. Some very cute kittens are waiting for homes, plus a few awesome adults. Adoption fee is only $85 for a fully-vetted feline!

Whew, it's Hot!
Wow - 108 degress predicted for Saturday. In spite of the sweat, we'll be doing cat adoptions on Saturday, June 30 at the Loganville Petsmart. Melanie and the dogs will be going to a neighborhood block party at Park Place subdivision in Loganville on Saturday from 3 to 7 pm. She'll have a tent, a pool of water and other things for cooling down, but we'll watch how the dogs hold up and may have to make an early exit if the heat is too much. I know it's already too much for me!

Can you help Daisy?
This is Daisy, a cattledog rescued on Monday from the
Gwinnett shelter. She's an older girl of about 8. Daisy is showing her age a
bit - missing teeth, vision problems, but it none of that matters to her. She
is overjoyed to be with people. We took her because such a sweetheart
doesn't deserve to die in the shelter.
But Daisy had some surprises. The vet discovered a life-threatening pyometra infection that required immediate surgery. While under anesthesia, Daisy was found to have severe dental disease - stage 4. She has ulcers in the roof of her mouth from the dental infection and most of her back teeth need to be removed.
Daisy's vet bill is $1,000. Plenty of people question the wisdom of spending that kind of money on an older dog, but those are people who haven't met her. The vet staff is in love with her and she's proven to be one tough girl.
This is an unexpected financial hit for us and we'd welcome donations for her. Our website www.wagwalton.com has a Paypal donation button, or you can contact Monroe Vet directly at (770) 267-3690.

WAG 'n Walk
Had a great time at the WAG 'n Walk in Meridian Park. Lots of folks came out - the weather worried us in the morning, but the afternoon was great. If you missed it - what can I say? You missed lots of good stuff.
Gail Mirabella and the Dynamo Disc Dogs got lots of applause for their great program. Gail even had one of her pups on his first public event - he jumped through the hoops like a seasoned champ. Jordan Rager played several tunes for us and there seemed to be a large number of teenage girls clustered around the stage. Imagine that! Jordan was a courteous guy, signing autographs and CD's for everyone who asked.
The 35 vendors were an awesome mixture of pet-related products, antiques, clothes, perfumes, and gifts. Thank goodness Chick-fil-A showed up with lots of sandwiches, cuz it was a hungry crowd!
Will post pics soon - got to use another computer for that.
Thanks to everyone for such a great event. We can't wait until next year!!

Happy Ending
Congratulations to Scruffy and Lovie, two older dogs turned into the shelter together. We worried about their future, but fortunately a great home was found. They'll spend the rest of their lives together!
Yesterday we transported them to the Petsmart in Conyers to meet their temporary foster. After about a week they'll head up to their permanent home in Virginia Beach, VA. What a lucky twosome!

Adoption hiatus
Well, it's time to take a short break - a couple of our fosters have a respiratory infection and need to rest for a couple of weeks, so we'll give them some time and start adoptions back in 2 weeks. We love finding new homes for our pets, but their health comes first so we're gonna give everybody some rest and relaxation and time to get well!
WAG 'n Walk is coming!
Saturday, May 12, 11 am to 2 pm - the third annual WAG 'n Walk at Meridian Park in Loganville. It's gonna be great fun with games, prizes, music, food and fun. And it's the only Pet Festival in Walton County. A can't miss event!

Rilee's Playhouse
Haven't shared this news yet, but our WAG friends continue to amaze us! In early March pet lover Michelle Hatfield donated a large 10 x 16 storage building to us - totally free! An awesome gift. Taylor's Wrecking Service in Monroe gave us a great price on moving it - and watching them wiggle that truck/building around corners and into place was impressive! Here are a couple of pics:
The building is at our foster coordinator Melanie's house and we're using it house more animals. It's a great space! Today it's getting insulated and a window A/C unit was put in to keep our pups cool during the hot weather.
Thanks to everyone who had a part in making this project a reality. The building has now been christened "Rilee's Playhouse" and is a comfortable place for our dogs to sleep at night.

Rosie update
A big thank you to everyone who donated so Rosie could have her orthopedic surgery. She has a couple of more weeks of crate rest and is going bonkers! She's still a young pup, after all. But recent x-rays show her fracture is healing well and her bone is growing as it should. And the best news is she's already found a wonderful home! She won't leave until medically cleared the first week of April, but we're so excited for Rosie and her new life.

The WAG office is located at 3904 Oak Grove Road, the brick house directly behind the Racetrac gas station on Hwy. 78 at Brand Rd.
Hope to see lots of dirty filthy cars there!
