A Wow Weekend!
What an amazing weekend at the Dog Days Adoption event in Salem, CT. We took 18 dogs, 14 of them were adopted in awesome homes. Some of these dogs had been waiting for quite a while for the right home, so we're thrilled to see them finally part of a happy family! Thanks again to our support system: Pound Puppies 'n Kitten rescue, Paradox Spay Neuter Clinic, and our dedicated transport drivers, Jim and Terry, for their time and efforts. And a big WAG hug of gratitude to volunteers Dee Dee and Monda who stepped up at the last minute to get us through the weekend. Y'all are awesome!
Check out some pictures of our weekend:

Look out Snellville - here comes WAG!
Another exciting opportunity is coming our way. Petsmart will be opening a new store in Snellville, GA., at Hwy. 124 and Ronald Reagan Parkway. WAG, along with fellow rescue group Pound Puppies and Kittens, will be working dog and cat adoptions at that store!! This is expected to be a very busy store and wonderful location for pet adoptions. We'll need new volunteers to help with weekend adoptions and caring for cats in the in-store cattery during the week. But what an amazing opportunity to save more furry lives!
Don't worry - we'll still be visiting the Loganville store for weekend adoptions. But adding another location opens up more adoption possibilities for our animals and that's a very good thing!
Our thanks to Petsmart for inviting us to partner with them in this new location. The store will be opening mid-November - so watch for more announcements coming soon!

New roommates
Welcome to a few new furry faces. Ginger was rescued from the Walton Co. shelter this week. She's a very sweet, timid but spunky girl and has bonded quickly with Cricket, a four month old pup.
Cinnamon is a 4-5 year old poodle and is going to make someone a wonderful pet. I'll never understand why these awesome dogs end up in the shelter.
Arnie was recently given away on a Facebook pet rehoming page, but somehow ended up at the shelter anyway. Their loss is our gain, because this guy is a wonderful gentleman.
Most of these dogs will be traveling with us on October 25 when we go to Salem CT for another Dog Days Adoption event. Getting excited already - can't wait!

A WAG Rescue Dog's Life, Part II
Concrete and kennels are only a small part of rescue. Keeping our dogs healthy and happy while they're waiting for a new home is our most important goal.
Dogs love daily routine. To keep kennel dogs from getting bored, we have several outings each day in good weather. Much like children, dogs like to keep busy with a variety of activities. Climbing, jumping, wrestling and chasing each other, catching balls or playing in the leaves are just a few of the fun doggy things available.
In the summer, kiddie pools are available for splashing or just lying down and getting cool. Jupiter, a Great Dane mix, has nailed down the cooling-off skill!

Even bringing in the newspaper can be an enjoyable group activity!
Our dogs have daily romps in the field following the fun cart (or what you might call a golf cart.) Most LOVE to stretch their legs and run beside the cart, ears flapping in the breeze. Our special cart is loaded with snacks and, as the new dogs soon learn, may stop at any time with yummy treats so everyone usually stays fairly close by.
Hijacking the fun cart is a common canine caper for those too tired to run anymore!
Group digging sessions are fun, especially in the "approved" digging zone: under the oak trees where chipmunks sometimes hang out!
Whether it's fun in the outside play yard or just sitting around socializing, the dogs are always glad to have visitors.
But, as mother always told you, life can't be all fun and games. Play is important, but so are manners and we want to help our dogs become happy, polite and socialized canine citizens.
Coming soon: In Part III of the life of a WAG rescue we'll check out some of the training time spent with our rescue dogs.

WAG 'n Walk fun
Thanks to everyone who came out to the WAG 'n Walk Pet Festival at Meridian Park. A bright sunny day, perhaps a little warmer than we wanted, but the dogs enjoyed getting out and visiting new friends. Our appreciation to those sponsors who made the afternoon possible. Thanks go to Budget Vet, Monroe Animal Care Hospital, Walton Living Magazine, Paws, Whiskers and Wags, Countryside Animal Hospital, Walnut Grove Animal Hospital, West Walton Feed and Tack, Legacy State Bank, and Paradox Spay Neuter Clinic for their awesome support!
Thanks also to the Social Circle Girl Scout Troop who worked as a team to raise $205! The Anchor Club students from Monroe Area High School were stalwart volunteers, along with lots of other hard-working WAG volunteers who braved heat and sweat-stained shirts to help us through the day. You guys rocks!
All together, our WAG 'n Walk sponsors, walkers and other supporters raised more than $4,000 for our programs - an amazing achievement! Thank You from our bottom of our rescue animals furry paws and happy hearts.
